How to set-up Single User (SU2) on Mac, Android and Media Player

The touchfoil Configuration Software is not compatible with Mac, Android or Media Players at this point in time, so to set-up one of these systems the touchfoil needs to be configured via a Windows PC.

To do this follow the steps laid out in this document.

Step 1

Connect the display that will be used (with the touchfoil in position) to a Windows PC via HDMI, DVI, and VGA etc.

Step 2

Download the latest touchfoil Configuration Software from our website:  http://www.visualplanet.biz/support/#drivers

Step 3

Install and run the touchfoil Configuration Software on your Windows PC.

Step 4

Connect the touchfoil to the Windows PC, the wizard should automatically start.

If the touchfoil is not connected, the software will show a window prompting you to connect the device

If you see this message check the connection
between the controller board and the PC (cable).

The configuration software will only work once the PC recognises the controller board. This process could take a while (up to a few minutes) depending on how quickly the Windows will install the generic HID drivers to communicate with the device.

If you see this message  follow the instructions on screen.

Pressing "Next", the configuration wizard will guide you through the following steps:

  1. Geometric calibration
  2. Output selection

Geometric calibration

Standing in the middle of the screen, place and hold your first (index) finger over the centre of each target displayed, whilst the orange progress circle is completing. Once the target has finished a green “tick” will display and the calibration will move to the next target.

Use your left hand for the targets on the left, and your right hand for targets on the right side of the display

Press each target in turn until the process has completed.

If the calibration has been successful the wizard will move to the next stage (Output selection).

Output selection

Select the type of output that you would like the product to report. The Single User product can output mouse, one touch, and two touch response. One and two touch response will work on computers running compatible versions of Windows 7 (or higher) and Linux (min requirements apply see our Compatibility table or contact support@visualplanet.biz for more information).

Once the output mode has been selected, it is stored on the controller board’s flash storage and will not change after plugging in to another host (Mac, Android or Media Player)

Please note not all media players support more than one touch. Please visit http://support.visualplanet.biz/content/1/89/en/single-user-su2_80-compatibility-list.html for compatibility list.

Step 5

Fine Tuning Threshold

At this point the product is ready to use, and you should see touch response when touching the sensor. If necessary, you can slightly adjust the touch threshold to change the level at which the product returns a touch event.

To change the threshold, click the Graph button in the Tools section. To increase the threshold click the +1 button, and to decrease the threshold click the -1 button. After each change, test the product by touching the sensor to check if the touch response is as desired. Increasing the threshold will make the touch “less sensitive”, while decreasing the threshold will make the touch “more sensitive”.

If you are having problems with the setting of the threshold, see the Tools section of this document

Note: The only time you should see green lines on the Graph is when you are touching the sensor through the glass.

To test touch output and performance from within the Configuration Software, you can press the Touch Test button in the Tools section.

Step 6

Disconnect the USB cable from the Windows PC and connect it to the other host (Mac, Android or Media Player) that you intend to use.

Connect the display to the other host (Mac, Android or Media Player) that you intend to use.

Once the touchfoil and display are connected, check for touch events by touching the screen,. if the touch is working correctly the touchfoil is setup for your Mac, Android or Media Player.

Extra Steps

To perform the following actions reconnect the touchfoil to the Windows PC.

Re-calibration

If you need to perform the geometric calibration again at some point, you can press the calibrate button on the main window.

Re-setting output

If you need to change the output mode of the device at some point, you can press the Output button on the main window.

Testing Touch

To test touch output and performance from within the Configuration Software, you can press the Touch Test button in the Tools section.
